About Michele

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is the first Republican woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota. Congresswoman Bachmann has earned a reputation as a “principled reformer” who stays true to her conservative beliefs while pushing for real reform of the broken ways of Washington.

Michele is a leading advocate for bipartisan earmark reform and tax relief and is a staunch opponent of wasteful government spending. She is among the leaders in the U.S. House pushing for increased energy exploration in the U.S. to provide much needed relief at the pump for hardworking Americans and put our nation on the path to energy independence.

Before serving in the U.S. Congress, Bachmann served in the Minnesota State Senate from 2000 to 2006 and championed the Taxpayers Bill of Rights. Prior to that, Bachmann spent five years as a federal tax litigation attorney, working on hundreds of civil and criminal cases. That experience solidified Bachmann’s strong support for efforts to simplify the Tax Code and reduce tax burdens on family and small business budgets.

Working Hard In Washington

Michele voted against raising the debt ceiling and is committed to fighting future increases in wasteful government spending.

As a leading opponent of Obamacare, Michele was the first member to submit a bill to repeal the program. She will continue to fight for its repeal and return healthcare decisions to the hands of individuals.

Michele is the chief author of the bill to repeal the Dodd-Frank Act. Repealing this bill will open up the credit markets and allow businesses to grow and hire more workers.

Results For Minnesota’s Sixth District

When a Veterans Outpatient Clinic was burdened by red tape, Michele worked with the Minneapolis VA Director to host informational sessions and get the project going again.

While the St. Cloud Airport was in danger of closure, Michele supported their request for federal funding through the competitive grant process. Today, the airport uses this grant funding to find additional investors and develop contracts for service into St. Cloud.

After 20 years of planning, Congress overwhelmingly approved Michele’s legislation that will allow a new St. Croix River Crossing Bridge to replace the Stillwater Lift Bridge. Construction is set to begin as early as 2013.
